>> J and Mel

Sporty Spice Melanie C and Five singer Jason Brown who reportedly split up their relationship, commented on their relationship and show signs that it might not be quite over. Melanie said:

"It was so hard even at the beginning with J because we had met at the Brit Awards and I really fancied him but the next day it was all over the papers. I couldn't bring myself to speak to him for a while because we were supposed to be having this great love affair, yet we hardly knew each other."

J said:

"We are still really good friends and that friendship will never die. We'll always be close. I don't know what is going to happen in the future but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of us getting back together again. We don't have any plans to do so right now but you never know. I don't let anybody rule how I go about my love life. Melanie and I knew for a fact that people would say stuff about it but we knew that we wanted to be together."

>> J on Mel Split

Former boyfriend of Mel C Jason Brown of boy group Five spoke in an interview about his relationship and break-up with Mel. He said:

"We realised over time that it wouldn't work because we were too good friends. I have spoken to Mel a lot since we split. We are still really good mates and nothing has changed. It was all very amicable. In fact, we went out for dinner last night. It was very nice. We have kept in touch and she is a very close friend. We were only seeing each other for a couple of months. There were no plans for marriage or moving in, so it wasn't too heartrending for either of us. I didn't tell anyone that we had split because we didn't intend to say anything. But I made one comment and it was made into a full story, like making a mountain out of a mole hill."

>> Worldpop Interview

Worldpop has a new Real Video interview with Melanie C up! There is also a transcript version of the interview available there. It's an interesting interview where Melanie officially says "If That Were Me" will be the final single off her debut album Northern Star and all it's proceeds will go to charity. But perhaps most interestingly she reveals that she has been surfing the web recently checking out Mel C sites! Here is a local copy of the transcript:

Also, the Spice Girls are planning to appeal against the decision in the Aprilia Court Case.  The girls were ordered to pay £400,000 for damages from the departure of Geri Halliwell in May 1998. They accused the band of knowingly entering into a sponsorship deal, which had all five faces on motorbikes, despite them knowing Geri Halliwell would depart in September 1998.

>> NBTSA North America Push

Melanie C/Virgin Records are now pushing Melanie C's last single "Never Be The Same Again" in North America. The song has been added to MuchMusic's (CAN) video playlist, and will soon be pushed to US radio stations for radio play. Unfortunately there will be no single release, the radio version will be labelled as the album cut, but it will really be the single mix?

Thanks Adam.

>> Next Mel C Album/ Track Her

There is a short interview with Melanie C up at worldpop (who promise another interview with Mel tomorrow, check out the dope Mel C pick). In the interview Mel talks about her next album, and that she would like to work with Eminem. She says:

"I've been been very inspired for my new album. It's gonna be very bitter and twisted! Really, 'I Turn To You' is about me. No matter how much support and love you've got around you there's only one person who can make it better and that's yourself. I'd love to work with Eminem and Dr Dre. I think they're really sound. I don't think you can put boundaries on people's creativity. I know what his [Eminem's] music's about and I like it. We'd have to do something that suited both of us. I don't know whether they'd want to work with me."

Melanie C was out yesterday shopping in London with her personal assistant and friend Chai Ling Yau. Mel was wearing jeans, a sleeveless t-shirt, and boots, and had a "girlie" shopping bag.

>> Pop Is A Rip Off!

Sporty Spice Mel C recently talked about current pop music and how it is marketed and ripping off kids. Mel was asked about what she thought of competition in pop music for the #1 spot:

"It's just whoever is marketed the best and who can rip off the kids most. I don't care who wins. When my solo single Never Be The Same Again was there, Westlife only sold a couple of thousand more but they were doing in-store signings and everything. It was a case of 'Get your money out kids'. It's the same with all pop acts, a big rip-off. It's exploitation within the marketplace. Kids are getting ripped off by people who are not talented and can't cut it live. The kids are getting fleeced."

>> J & Mel Split?!

::Rumour Warning::

Jason Brown, boyband Five star and recent boyfriend of Melanie C has dumped Melanie C. J said:

"We've called it a day, but we're still friends. It's just one of those things, but we'll still go out for drinks now and then. It was great just being boyfriend and girlfriend. You can't have a girlfriend you only see eight times a year, it isn't on. I'm a bachelor again now, and I've been enjoying nights out on the town. I've been in Ibiza 37 hours and haven't slept a wink. Me and the boys went to Cream at Amnesia the other night and got wrecked. This girl came up to me and asked me to sign her breasts. She didn't need to ask me twice! It was mad but when you're here you just go with the flow."

>> Album 3 Info!

Melanie C says that Spice Girls actually still have two more weeks of studio work on the third album before it's ready to release. She also said that it will be released in November and that the first single HAS NOT been chosen yet, no video has been shot, and it's still up for discussion which one will be the first single. A separate rumouristic news report states that Spice Girls will release a single on December 18th, and will have to battle a Westlife single for the Christmas #1 spot. Finally, mtv.com(US) has posted a story about the possible return of Spice Girls before year's end. MTV (US) also has a poll up gathering information on whether there is interest in the new Spice album. Go there and vote NOW as it could influence the amount of coverage and exposure MTV gives the new Spice album.

Thanks Adam for the MTV news.

>> PITP Follow Up!

Yesterday was the day of the UK's Party In The Park music festival at which both Melanie C and Victoria performed! It was a very rainy day but the performances went on. There was a bit of a stir about the number of acts that were lip-syncing. Melanie C was one of the few artists there that sang live and when asked about it Mel said:

"I think when you go to see bands you don't go to see them mime. I don't agree with artists miming."

>> Mel C Welcomes Charity Workers

59 year old Dave Williams used to have bowel cancer. He has walked 235 miles to raise money for a cancer centre in memory of Linda McCartney. His journey began in June 18th at The Cavern Club in Liverpool and made his way to London's Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles used to record, and Spice Girls do record. Melanie C met up with and congratulated Dave, from John Lennon Drive in Liverpool along with fellow walkers Julie Bond(40) from Crosby, Liverpool (who is an appeal director for the centre), Ian Gibbons(40) from Tamworth, Birmingham, and Lois Douglas(40) from Crosby, Liverpool. Mel greeted them and said it was vitally important to open the centre as soon as possible in order to help cancer sufferers throughout the country. They hope to raise £100,000 from the walk that will be used towards a new centre of excellence for treatment of cancer soon to be opened on Merseyside - The Linda McCartney Centre.
