We're so pleased we're number 1, we want to say a massive thanks to all our fans for being so loyal. It's always fantastic to be number 1 and we'll all be celebrating with friends. This time it is a little bit extra special, because we've been out of the public eye for a little while. We were really nervous as you never know if you're going to be welcomed back - but you lot are great!!! Emma on getting to Number 1 this week-end. The Spice Girls are moving up that league of number 1's with more than even the Rolling Stones! Only the Beatles (17), Elvis(17) and Sir Cliff Richard (14) to go! The number 1's so far : Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Mama/Who Do You Think You Are, Spice Up your Life, Too Much, Viva Forever, Goodbye and now Holler/Let Love Lead the Way. 30th October 2000 | Posted by: SpiceNews >> Mel Bashes 'Life After getting their new single to #1, Mel C was asked (as were the other girls in separate interviews), what she thought of the Westlife "competition", and their remarks that the Spice Girls are "finished". Mel said: "They said we were finished. Well, how do they like them apples? We're as big as ever. All they do is get their marketing men to work out what it takes to get to number one. It doesn't mean anything any more. For me, it's all about the music." 29th October 2000 | Posted by: SpiceNews >> Holler! "Holler" has entered the Australian Singles Chart at #2. Melanie would be a binge-eater, and would run six miles and go to the gym for two to three hours most days. If she was too busy with recording to find time for the gym, she wouldn't eat that day. It finally became so severe that she had to go to her doctor for help and the other Spice Girls became increasingly worried by her thin appearance. The disorder was the real reason she was prescribed the anti-depressant Prozac. Mel now says that she realizes she is overweight. She says: "I'm not happy with my weight. I am overweight for my frame and height but I've got a healthier mind and I'd rather have that. I always felt not good, or not pretty enough, or I didn't have a good enough body, to be a Spice Girl. Not good enough to be famous. I've never liked myself, and I've always had self-doubt, so I thought if I'm as fit as I can be and thin then maybe I'll be good enough. Eventually I was just living on fruit and vegetables, steamed or raw. There was no fat in my diet, no protein, no carbohydrates. I even stopped eating potatoes and didn't drink alcohol for three years. Then it all started catching up on me, I was so severely underweight. And I would avoid going out to dinner because I had this horrible secret to hide." 27th October 2000 | Posted by: SpiceNews >> Forever More There is apparently a new Spice Girls DVD coming out on November 13th called Forever More.
