>> Mel C Interview Translation

Sorry for taking so long to put this up, but below is a translation of the short Latin Mel C interview:

Estuardo Herrera(from Mexico): Where will you put your next tattoo?

That's a very personal question. I think on my arm, if I can find any space.

Valentino(from Chile): Why did you get yourself a gold tooth?

Because I liked the way it looked, I saw it on someone. I liked it and so I bought one for myself.

Claudia Pozo(from La Paz, Bolivia): Do you see your future with the Spice Girls?

I see my future the same way it is now. I like it very much, working with the Spice Girls. But I also like singing as a solo artist. I hope to continue what I'm doing.

Javier Valencia(from Venezuela): Is it true that you have plans on doing something with Bon Jovi?

Yes there were rumors going around that he and I would be working together, but unfortuanatly nothing came out of it. I have always been a fan of Bon Jovi.

Juan(from Buenos Aires, Argentina): I am curious, did you sing with playback audio on the MTV Europe Music Awards? If yes, why?

Yes, like many other artists. Basically because we didn't have time to rehearse. It was easier for us and we had time for a laugh this way.

Thanks Sandra Prieto, Vivian, and Raluca.

>> Support For Mel C!

Like Mel C. needs any support, but hey, you take what you can get right?! hehe

Dr. Dre, the man who took controversial rapper Eminem under his wing may not respect the troubled all-girl band's music, but he has some good words to say about Mel C., Sporty Spice, -- who has had a year beset with weight and depression problems, as well as the disappointing sales of the Spice Girls's recent third album "Forever."

Here's what he had to say...

"I'm a big fan of the Spice Girls -- but not because of their music! My favorite? I'd have to say Sporty Spice because I hung out with her one night.

"We talked for close to hour in a bar in Hollywood -- just kicking it around.

"I loved her personality."

So who knows maybe we'll see a Dr. Dre, Mel C. Single/album??? Only time will tell.

"I'm enjoying my solo work more than the Spice Girls," says Mel C., the popular known as Sporty Spice to millions around the world, to a roomful fans on Thursday night at Toronto's Ted's Wrecking Yard. At the "103.5 Mel C. Christmas Party," as it was being called by the sponsoring radio station, Mel C. played three sets of two songs each. She was accompanied by guitarist/backing vocalist Claire Nicolson, Percussionist Fergus Gerrand and guitarist Paul Gendler. During the breaks between songs she answered questions from around a dozen contest winners.

Inside the club was decorated with red drapes and loads of Christmas ornaments, Melanie Chrisholm stuck to material from her year-old debut album, Northern Star, which has already sold over 2.2 Million copies worldwide. She danced around the stage and on into the night wearing a long-sleeve blue "67" t-shirt and jeans. She stood as confidently as ever at the mike, swinging her hips and singing out "If That Were Me" and "Never Be the Same Again," before stopping to answer yet a few more questions before continuing.

After answering numerous questions regarding her depression, eating disorder, Irish pop stars Westlife, and the recent album with the rest of the Spice Girls, she continued her set with, "Closer" and "Northern Star," and then on the third and final set with, "Be the One" and "Goin' Down," she reflects on her solo accomplishments with this,
"I was quite surprised how good I was . . . There's more to me than Sporty Spice."

>> On Forever!

Mel C recently spoke about the girls' reaction to earl Forever success. She said:

"Of course we would've liked it to be more successful. At the end of the day, we haven't worked as hard on the promotional side as we did on the previous two records, mainly because we do want to have a life as well as a career. It's to be expected that if you're going to work your ass off, every day of the year, of course you're going to have more success. We're trying to find balance in our lives now. Two of the girls have got babies, we have solo projects. We're just happy to have a good album, and the fans who have it are enjoying it. As people discover it and get to hear it, it will be more successful in the future. We definitely feel this is the best Spice Girls album ever."

"Next year is probably going to be a year of more solo work. Right now, we haven't got anything planned, specifically, as a group. We're enjoying what we're up to at the moment. Nobody's leaving the band, and we're not splitting up. We're taking a bit of time out and exploring things for ourselves. When we started, we were young and hungry and wanted success. We still want it, but we've now had two, three years of living that crazy life, and we've missed other things a little bit. It's a change of pace for the Spice Girls, that's all."

>> Interview

Worldpop has a new video interview with Mel C up. This is the same interview that they based a clip from about Mel denying Spice Girls splitting up from. This is however much longer and more elaborate. In the interview Mel talks about her new single "If That Were Me", about the Spice Girls split rumors obviously, says there will be no Spice Girls tour in 2001 due to time constraints, talks about her next solo album, and her Christmas plans.

Here is a local copy of their watered-down text-transcript:

With Melanie C clocking up more column inches than ever, worldpop set about sorting the truth from the rumours. Melanie told us what's really going on in Spiceworld, why she's released a charity single and who her money's on for Christmas number one.

The single, the second album, and breaking America
Why are you giving the proceeds from your new single If That Were Me to charity?

I always wanted the royalties to go to charity because the song was inspired by homelessness. The lyrics are simple but very self-explanatory. Myself and my friends give spare change to homeless people but how's that going to help? We need to do something more constructive and help people have more pride in themselves. The charity I'm giving the money to, www.kandu-arts.com, is about getting people back on their feet, it's about music and TV, so they've got something to live for as well as somewhere to live.

This is the last single from Northern Star. Are you working on the second album?

Not yet. Things are always floating through my mind but I'm not back in the studio until this time next year. I'm going to America in the next few days to do some radio stuff because I'm number one in the dance chart over there. I'm going to try and break America - Brits abroad once again! Then I'll be back next year touring the UK again in February, then the rest of the world, then back in the studio!

Are you going to use the producers you used on the first album?

I'd like to work with some of the same people, well all of the same people! I really love the album and I couldn't do any better, but there are new people who are interested in me. The artists and producers I want to work with are very diverse in their musical styles. That's the way I like to write because it doesn't give you any boundaries. But I don't plan anything, we just go in and do it.

The truth about the Spice Girls
Lots of people reckon the Spice Girls are splitting up.

I'm really bored of having to clear up all these stories. When we released Wannabe everybody thought we were a one hit wonder and here we are three albums and nine number ones later. Yeah, we're all doing solo stuff but I hope the MTV Awards showed that we're still together, we're still very much a band. You're either built up by the press or you're getting battered by them. It's very sad this country's like that but it's something you have to accept. They'll continue to write it but the fans know the truth.

You were quoted as saying the MTV performance could be the Spice Girls' last.

That's not true. I don't know where that came from. You read stuff that you've never actually said. It's just very tedious. There's not going to be a tour next year, we haven't got time to fit it in. But that doesn't rule out the possibility of a tour the year after. We don't know what the next single's going to be. We've got to discuss that so you'll have to wait and see!

Christmas plans
Who's your bet for Christmas number one?

I think it would be great if Eminem could get to number one. Everyone's talking about Stan, aren't they? It's a great track. I don't know whether Spice Girls will be able to release a single in time for Christmas but I think a fantastic number one would be "Time Goes By" from the Forever album.

How are you spending Christmas?

I'm going home for Christmas as ever. I'm going to see my mum and dad and my family and friends and then I'm going on a little bit of a holiday. Time to relax after a hectic year.

Where are you going?

I'm not going to tell you! The paparrazi are going to follow me wherever I go but I'm trying to keep it secret for as long as I can!
